Growing Pumpkins

  • Plant pumpkins in late spring as the weather transitions to summer
  • For optimal growth, plant each pumpkin on a 3-foot wide mound of warm, fertile soil that maintains a pH level between 6.0 and 6.8.
  • Upgrade your existing soil by blending in several inches of aged compost or another variant of nutrient-dense organic matter.
  • To properly care for pumpkins, ensure they receive ample water while being mindful to avoid wetting the leaves.
  • When pumpkins begin to develop, lift them above the ground level to avoid decay.
  • When the pumpkin skin is firm, and the stems should have begun to wither it is time to harvest them.
