Growing Eggplant

  • When planting eggplant, ensure that the soil temperatures are above 50 degrees Fahrenheit and that there is no risk of frost.
  • To ensure optimal growth and stability for your space eggplants, it is recommended to plant them with a spacing of 24 to 36 inches apart. After they have become established, staking them will help prevent them from toppling over. Moreover, choose an area that offers ample sunlight and has fertile, well-drained soil.
  • Enhance the quality of the natural soil by incorporating a few inches of aged compost or other nutrient-rich organic matter.
  • Maintain soil moisture at an adequate level without excessive saturation.
  • Once your plants have reached a height of 6 inches, you can consider applying a layer of organic mulch. This can be made from finely ground leaves or bark, which will provide beneficial nutrients and insulation for your plants.
  • When the fruits of the eggplant stop growing and develop a glossy skin, it is time to harvest them. Use gardening shears to carefully remove the ripe fruit, making sure to leave a small portion of the stem attached.
