Growing Cucumbers
- When the average daily temperatures reach the mid-70s° Fahrenheit, it is recommended to plant cucumbers.
- To ensure proper growth, place the cucumbers at a distance of 36 to 60 inches apart. For trellised plants, the spacing should be 12 inches apart. Find a spot with abundant sunlight and fertile, well-drained soil having a pH range of 6.0 to 6.8.
- Upgrade the existing soil by blending in several inches of well-aged compost or other highly nourishing organic matter.
- Cultivating cucumbers can be done with minimal effort. Ensure they are consistently supplied with one inch of water on a weekly basis to prevent bitterness.
- In order to maintain the cleanliness of the fruit and prevent slugs and beetles from causing damage, it is recommended to add a layer of straw mulch when the soil is warm.
- Harvest cucumbers when they still young.
