Growing Cauliflower

  • To ensure successful growth, it is recommended to plant spring cauliflower 2-4 weeks ahead of the final frost, whether in containers or in-ground gardens.
  • Place cauliflower plants in rows, ensuring that there is a spacing of 18 inches between each plant. Maintain a gap of 30 inches between the rows.
  • Enhance your existing soil by blending in a few inches of compost or other nutrient-rich organic material.
  • Add mulch to the soil, creating a 3-inch layer, and water plants with 1 to 1.5 inches of water per week.
  • Protect young plants from cold weather by covering them.
  • Secure the leaves of the cauliflower head in place by gently folding them over when the head size resembles that of a apricot, using a rubber band for added security.
  • When picking cauliflower heads, opt for those that are still firm and compact, ensuring they are of sufficient size to be eaten, usually around 6 to 8 inches in diameter.
