Growing Brussel Sprouts

  • During the cool temperatures of early spring and early fall, plant Brussel Sprouts.
  • To ensure proper growth and development of Brussels sprouts, it is important to provide sufficient spacing. Place them approximately 18-24 inches apart in an area that receives abundant sunlight for at least 6 hours daily. The soil should be well-drained, fertile, and have a pH level of 6.8 for optimal results.
  • To prepare for planting, enrich the existing soil by blending in several inches of compost or another type of organic matter with high nutritional content.
  • Ensure regular monitoring of soil moisture levels and provide plants with 1 to 1.5 inches of water on a weekly basis.
  • Evenly distribute a 3-inch layer of mulch across the soil for optimal moisture retention and weed prevention.
  • When picking, ensure that the heads are firm and green, measuring 1 to 2 inches in diameter.
